My warmest welcome to all!
This is the first time that the Philippines is hosting the Asian leg of the Global Radiology Education (GRE) Seminar. We are quite excited with this challenge and we are in the midst of enthusiastically preparing to provide attendees with a “total package” that would encompass positive experiences both in and out of the lecture halls.
For the local Radiological community, the Philippine College of Radiology (PCR), is doing this hosting in lieu of the usual Annual Convention lecture-workshops that we have every February. The main difference is that we are now widely opening our doors to international delegates. So now, everything has to be world-class!
We know that we have a tough act to follow. For many years the Asian leg of GRE has been held in the resort island of Bali, Indonesia, which boasts of a solid international reputation. Manila and its surrounding enclaves have a lot to offer too! Julia Roberts would be able to `Eat Pray and Love’ and do a lot more in our beloved city!
The academic portion of the GRE Seminar, fortunately for us, is a certified blockbuster! We don’t need to say anything. You can just browse the websites of GRE and PCR to check the credentials of our Harvard-affiliated faculty for the upcoming seminar!
We are thanking the leadership of Global Radiology Education led by its chair, Dr. Adji Saptogino, for bestowing confidence and trust in us, giving us this valuable opportunity. We hope to be equal to the task at hand.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the PCR Annual Convention Organizing Committee led by Dr. Eva de Leon for diligently taking care of the nitty-gritty details for our February seminar. Kudos, as well, to our Liaison Officer with GRE, Dr. Bernard Laya, who spearheaded this partnership with GRE, making everything possible. Lastly, I want to acknowledge the much-needed support given by our Industrial Partners. We strongly encourage delegates to visit the Industrial Booths to check on the latest technological products that are being showcased.
So with that I would like to say `Mabuhay Tayong
Jerome A. Gaerlan MD
President, Philippine College of Radiology
It is an extraordinary privilege to chair the 2019 convention of the Philippine College of Radiology, with the theme, Adult and Pediatric Chest, Abdomen and Musculoskeletal Imaging: A Global Radiology Education Experience.
The selection of the Philippines as host of this Global Radiology Education Conference has filled us with pride and excitement.
This gives us a chance to renew old friendships, make new friends, and invigorate ourselves and our profession by sharing our knowledge and skills to better improve the availability, quality and efficiency of Radiology to those who need it the most. With constant updates, we have the power to change the way we practice medicine.
The Philippine College of Radiology regularly fosters a meeting of minds that will enhance partnerships among those within Radiology, those with others outside of Radiology and those with our patients. Radiologists must interact more directly with patients and primary care physicians to provide a comprehensive diagnostic and advisory service. This will increase efficiency and clinical effectiveness of our service.
It is our hope that this Convention will inspire us to keep on improving our knowledge and skills and to improve delivery of these skills to all our patients, whether in the private or public sector.
Thank you and may you have a memorable stay!
